EAS 2005 will be held at Kent State University. Before you leave for EAS, go to www.DiscoverOhio.com to request information. The following tours are being offered for EAS 2005 - two full day tours and one half-day tour during the Short Course.

Package #1 - August 2, 2005

1:00p.m. Depart Kent for Canton, Ohio
1:30 p.m. Split group: 1 group goes to McKinley Library & Monument; 1 Group goes to 1^st Ladies
2:30 p.m. Switch group: McKinley group goes to 1^st Ladies Library; 1^st Ladies goes to McKinley

"Gardens, Jungles & Deserts. Oh My!"
Our tour through downtown and the unique neighborhoods will make it clear that Cleveland has been reborn. Today Cleveland boasts the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, Playhouse Square, Rockefeller Gardens and much more. Here about the beginnings of James D. Rockefeller, Bob Hope, !Western Union and the first light bulb! Visiting Cleveland would not be complete without seeing Lakeview Cemetery. Not only was Elliot Ness laid to rest hear and site of the Garfield Memorial. But the must see is the Wade Chapel. One of the most impressive sites in Cleveland, this chapel was built entirely by Tiffany & Company. So no detail was overlooked and no expense was spared! A visit to the new Cleveland Botanical Gardens takes us from the Spiny Desert of Madagascar, an oasis full of color, to the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica with blooming orchids and butterflies flying freely!

"Era of Elegance"
The rich and famous have left their mark here in Akron. And our tour will showcase mansions from two important times in Akron's history. The farm machinery and hot breakfast industry built a magnificent Victorian home, the Hower House. Take a tour through this 35-room mansion and see treasures from around the world! Lunch will exemplify elegance as we dine at the exclusive Akron Women's City Club. Following lunch we will visit the estate built during the rubber boom. Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is the palatial estate of F.A. Serberling, co-founder of Goodyear Tire & Rubber. This 65-room mansion has played host to presidents, captains of industry and now you!

Tour the historic mansion once owned by Franklin & Gertrude Seiberling, co-founder Goodyear Tire & Rubber. The mansion was built between 1912 & 1915. After touring the mansion take a walk through the beautiful gardens.

Kent "ON TRACK" Tour
Enjoy a unique dining experience at the Pufferbelly, Ltd. in the historic Kent Railway Depot (built in 1875). The CSX Railroad mainline runs by the Pufferbelly along the Cuyahoga River. Then add a touch of nostalgia by visiting the Kent Historical Society located upstairs. Finish off the evening by strolling around the many specialty shops/pubs in the historic downtown or stroll along Franklin Mills Riveredge Park.

A "TASTE OF PORTAGE" Tour
Begin your journey with a visit to the Garden Grille for a taste of authentic European (and hearty American) at the outdoor garden or indoor sports club. Then visit Viking Vineyards & Winery's cozy, relaxing tasting room, overlooking the lake, where people come to unwind, talk, enjoy the scenery, listen to music, enjoy the art, drink wine and eat. Then sample a local microbrew from Blimp City Brewery available at Mike's Place.

"Castaway in Portage" Tour
Start your day off with a fishing trip to Mogadore Reservoir. The Reservoir features a 1,000 acres of fishing water (electric motors only) and opportunities include Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Crappies, Brown Bullhead, Yellow Perch, and an occasional Muskellunge. Or head east to West Branch State Park that boasts 2,350 acres of water (no horsepower restrictions). West Branch Reservoir fishing opportunities include Tiger Musky, Northern Pike, Striped Bass, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Yellow Perch, White and Black Crappie, Bluegill, Bullhead, and Channel Catfish. Catch & release or a slow fishing day? Stop by the Brimfield Steakhouse or the Rusty Nail for a great fish dinner!

"FASHIONABLY FUN" Tour
Visit the K.S.U. Fashion Museum then have a relaxing cup of coffee or lunch at a nearby coffee house or eatery. Conclude the afternoon by creating a fashion of your own at one of our many area retailers and specialty shops.

"OVER THE FALLS" Tour
Head to the downtown Kent area for an ice cream cone and a walk along the scenic Cuyahoga River Edge and Falls. End your excursion by stopping in one of the nearby boutiques, restaurants, or pubs along the Franklin Avenue strip.

"THE PAST COMES ALIVE" Tour
Begin your day with a trip to the Historic Kelso House, the center of activity in Brimfield since its inception. The house now holds a museum of historical artifacts that are related to Brimfield's past. Then head north to the Kent Historical Society located upstairs of the Kent Railway Station. Opened in 1875, the station is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Finally, head east to the Portage County Historical Society located in Ravenna.

"GET EDUCATED" Tour
Established in 1910, Kent State University is one of Ohio's premier universities. Learn about the history of the institution including the May 4th memorial and the events of that era. Take a stroll on the inviting campus or take the family to the Student Wellness and Recreation Center (swimming, rock climbing, exercise facilities & more!).

"PARK IT" in Portage Portage County is blessed with an extensive network of parks. Spend some time enjoying the great outdoors. Kent, also known as the original "Tree City U.S.A.", has six picturesque parks and Brimfield features the Town Center and Community Parks (guides are available at the Information Center). Many have facilities for children.

Hotels near Kent State

These hotels are right at the exit off of Interstate 71 to Kent State. We have a block of rooms reserved at the Days Inn, 330.677.9400. The rates are $63.65/single, $72.20/double, $77.90/triple and $83.60/quad. Reservations must be made by July 17 to receive this rate. Also at the exit is a Hampton Inn, 330.673.8555 and a Super 8, 330.678.8817. There are more and if you visit the website for Kent you'll find even more.

Getting to Kent State

Located in Kent, Ohio, the Kent Campus is ideally situated in northeastern Ohio, amid rolling terrain dotted by spring-fed lakes. Kent, a city of some 30,000, rests on the banks of the Cuyahoga River in Portage County. Yet, "big city" enthusiasts are only a short drive from four major urban centers - 11 miles east of Akron, 33 miles southeast of Cleveland, 40 miles west of Youngstown and 28 miles north of Canton, with airports offering access to the nation and the world. Kent State University is easily accessible from all directions via major interstate highways; Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana turnpikes; Cleveland Hopkins Airport; and Akron-Canton Airport.

From I-76: Take the Kent/Route 43 exit (exit 33) and proceed north to Route 261. Turn right (east) onto Route 261. Proceed one-fourth mile to Campus Center Drive. Turn left onto Campus Center Drive and follow it to the stop sign at the junction of East Campus Center Drive and West Campus Center Drive. Proceed to your destination from this point by following the signage at that intersection.

From I-80 (Ohio Turnpike): Use exit 187/13 (Streetsboro). After the toll booth, proceed straight (follow Ravenna sign) onto Route 14 traveling southeast, go past Route 303 to Route 43. Turn right (south) on Route 43 and continue south for approximately six miles until you come to the traffic light at the dead end at Haymaker Parkway in the city of Kent. Turn left (east) onto Haymaker and follow until you reach the traffic light at the intersection of Lincoln and Haymaker. Proceed to your destination from this point by following the signs.

From I-90: Proceed toward Cleveland. Take I-271 south to I-480 east; stay on I-480 until it becomes Route 14 in Streetsboro. Turn right (south) on Route 43 and continue south for approximately six miles until you come to the traffic light at the dead end at Haymaker Parkway in the city of Kent. Turn left (east) onto Haymaker Parkway and follow until you reach the traffic light at the intersection of Lincoln and Haymaker. Proceed to your destination from this point by following the signs.
